Many institutions listed in the Colleges section of our website offer their own scholarships or financial aid. Scholarships may also be obtained from trade associations to pursue a career in hospitality.

Co-Branded Scholarship for High School Seniors presented by RAMEF and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a qualified graduating high school senior in the state of Maryland. Deadline: April 1, 2010

The Letitia B. Carter Scholarship
A competitive scholarship award for Maryland residents interested in pursuing hospitality-related coursework. Available to high school students, college students, high school, college or corporate instructors and current hospitality industry professionals. Deadline: April 1, 2010

Marcia S. Harris Legacy Fund Scholarship
This scholarship is available to Maryland residents, including high school seniors, college students, high school teachers and post-secondary teachers, who are pursuing or teaching culinary arts or hospitality related coursework. Applicants must possess the qualities of passion and dedication and have a strong desire to improve the foodservice industry through the personal pursuit of professionalism.

National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Scholarships |
- Undergraduate Academic Scholarships for High School Seniors assists high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to both post-secondary restaurant/foodservice education and an industry career.
- ProStart® National Certificate of Achievement Scholarships
Students who have earned the Prostart National Certificate of Achievement by participating in the Prostart program and are continuing their education in a restaurant or foodservice program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. - Undergraduate Academic Scholarships for College Students assists qualified undergraduate students enrolled in restaurant and foodservice post secondary programs.
- Professional Development Scholarships for Educators assists foodservice educators who want to complement their classroom time with "hands-on" work experience.
- Coca-Cola Salute to Excellence Scholarship Award is available to Salute to Excellence Student Delegates.
- GRI/Giacomo Bologna Scholarship offers all-expenses paid trip to Italy. During this program, students will be offered a first hand experience in Italian winemaking while staying in a well-known Italian winery.

- The Chef2Chef Scholarship Fund offers scholarships based on hard work, merit, character and the commitmen to a career in the culinary arts.
- The California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness Program offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic students expressing financial need to study nutrition, physical education, or culinary arts in the state of California.
- The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality offers two scholarships:
- Future Culinarian of America Scholarship Foundation
- Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI) offers the Fred Schmid and Richard Flambert Memorial Scholarship to a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a hospitality or foodservice program of study.
- The Women's Business Alliance Scholarship Program funded by the Choice Hotels International Foundation awards college scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to deserving females with an interest in or link to the hospitality industry.
- The Baltimore Chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food offers a scholarship to Maryland residents attending Anne Arundel Community College. Contact Roger Lettie at 410-777-2330.
- The Culinary Trust Scholarship Program of the International Association of Culinary Professionals provides funds to qualified applicants for beginning, continuing and specialty education courses at accredited culinary schools worldwide, as well as independent study for research projects.
- The Food Network has teamed with the Institute of Culinary Education to offer a $10,000 scholarship for the Culinary Arts or Pastry & Baking program. Click here for details.
- The International Food Service Executives Association scholarship grants are awarded for the purpose of assisting deserving individuals to receive food service management or vocational training beyond the high school level.
- The National Food Processor Association Graduate Student Scholarship Award Program recognizes an outstanding student in the area of food technology/food science who has shown ability to enhance the safety and wholesomeness of food products through research and scholastic achievement in one or more food science disciplines such as food microbiology, food chemistry, biotechnology, sanitation, packaging, or processing.

Friends of James Beard Scholarships
|
The James Beard Foundation administers over 100 scholarships per year. Full information can be found at Friends of James Beard. The following is a sample of some of their scholarships available to Maryland students.

Alberto Bello Scholarship
$1,500 scholarship toward tuition for applicant making a career change and entering The Institute of Culinary Education (formerly Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School), where Mr. Bello was a student. - Marcel Desaulniers Scholarship (The Trellis, Williamsburg, VA)
$1,000 scholarship toward tuition for applicant entering the Continuing Education Department two-semester Baking and Pastry Arts Certificate Program at the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York. Applicant must have worked in food service for 1-3 years and substantiate this experience. -
Dana Campbell Memorial Scholarship (Sponsored by Southern Living Magazine )
$2,000 awarded to an applicant with a career interest in food journalism who is in his/her second or third year in an accredited bachelor degree program in journalism or a food-related curriculum. Applicant must be a resident of a “southern” state within the Southern Living readership area (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, West Virginia or Delaware) and substantiate residency. The scholarship recipient will also be considered for an internship at Southern Living. - The James Beard Foundation General Scholarships
The James Beard Foundation sets aside a portion of its general operating budget to make scholarship grants of between $1,000 and $3,000 toward tuition at an accredited culinary school of the student’s choice. The amount of each scholarship is at the discretion of the James Beard Foundation scholarship committee. - Baltimore International College
Three $2,000 scholarships toward tuition and housing for students currently enrolled at B.I.C. and in financial need for the AAS Professional Baking and Pastry Program, the AAS Professional Cooking Program and the AAS Professional Cooking and Baking Program. One scholarship per program will be given. - The Peter Cameron Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship toward tuition at an accredited culinary school of the student’s choice in North America. If elsewhere, the approval of the school is at the discretion of the scholarship committee. In addition to completing the requirements of The James Beard Foundation Scholarship application, applicant must:
- Be a high school senior
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.5
- Have applied for admission to culinary school
- Have a minimum of 1 year experience in the culinary field and substantiate
- Submit a minimum 500-word essay describing culinary goals
